Macron to Host Economic Summit with G7, China and Emerging Nations
French President Emmanuel Macron will convene a videoconference on Thursday bringing together G7 members, China, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and several emerging economies in a bid to strengthen economic cooperation ahead of the G7 summit in Evian. Dubbed the "World Convergence Summit for Growth," the meeting will include representatives from Britain, Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, China, as well as Brazil, India, South Korea, Kenya and Egypt. The Elysee Palace said the initiative aims to ease economic tensions and foster balanced, sustainable and shared growth, while contributing to broader discussions ahead of the G20 summit in the United States later this year. The G7 summit is scheduled to take place in the French Alpine resort of Evian from June 16-17.
NASA Unveils Artemis III Crew for 2027 Lunar Mission Rehearsal
NASA on Tuesday announced the four-member crew for its Artemis III mission, a key step in the agency's plan to return humans to the Moon and eventually send astronauts to Mars. The crew, comprising NASA astronauts Randy Bresnik, Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas, along with European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano, will not land on the Moon but will orbit Earth while rehearsing docking procedures between the Orion spacecraft and lunar landers being developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin. The two-week mission is targeted for 2027 and follows the record-setting Artemis II flight around the Moon earlier this year. NASA said the mission is part of a revamped Artemis programme aimed at accelerating lunar exploration, with a crewed Moon landing currently envisioned for 2028.
Trump Announces William Pulte as Acting Director of National Intelligence
US President Donald Trump announced that William Pulte, who has been working closely with Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, will assume the role of Acting Director of National Intelligence on June 19. Pulte will continue to serve as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and Chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while taking on the additional responsibility, according to the announcement.
