Minister Rajbhar Addresses Oil Supply Concerns Amid US-Israel-Iran Tensions

In Varanasi, Minister Omprakash Rajbhar addressed the media on Friday, highlighting the impact of the ongoing tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran on international oil supply. He acknowledged that the conflict has led to a temporary problem in oil availability, affecting nations globally, including India.

Global Conflicts and Their Ripple Effects

After conducting a Janata Darbar in Atraulia, Azamgarh, Rajbhar explained to reporters that when major countries become embroiled in conflicts, the repercussions are felt worldwide. "Ships carrying oil for India have already set sail, and supply will normalize soon," he stated, offering reassurance to the public.

He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working on a war footing and actively engaging in talks to manage the situation effectively. The minister's comments come amid reports of escalating tensions in the Middle East, which have disrupted oil markets.

Appeal for Calm and Cooperation

Rajbhar made a strong appeal to the public, urging them not to panic or hoard oil. "Oil will be made available to everyone in adequate quantities; only a little patience is needed," he said, aiming to prevent unnecessary shortages and price spikes.

He also directed petrol pump operators to avoid displaying 'no stock' boards without solid reasons, as such actions can fuel rumors and cause crowding. This measure is intended to maintain order and prevent misinformation from spreading.

Political Reactions and Allegations

In response to a post by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav regarding mud stoves, Rajbhar dismissed it as a blatant lie. He challenged the opposition, stating that if an investigation were conducted, ten cylinders would be found in Yadav's house.

"Those who have no shortage of gas cylinders in their homes are spreading confusion," he taunted, accusing the opposition of attempting to mislead the public. Rajbhar firmly denied allegations that the government is deliberately creating a shortage, asserting that their objective is to provide relief to common people, not to instigate a crisis.

Broader Context of the Middle East Crisis

The minister's statements are set against a backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with recent events including:

  • Blasts reported near the Pakistan embassy in Tehran as Israel launches fresh strikes.
  • India preparing to restart LNG buys from Russia, seeking waivers from the Trump administration.
  • The government levying export duties on diesel and turbine oil, aiming to collect over Rs 1,500 crore in a fortnight.

These developments underscore the complex interplay between global conflicts and domestic economic policies, with India navigating challenges to ensure stable fuel supplies for its citizens.
