Martyr Sudhir Narwal Cremated with Full State and Military Honours in Yamunanagar
The village of Sherpur in Chhachhrauli block of Yamunanagar district witnessed a solemn and emotional ceremony on Saturday as Martyr Sudhir Narwal, who lost his life in a road accident while on duty in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, was cremated with full state and military honours. Thousands of people gathered in his native village to pay their last respects, bidding a tearful farewell to the brave soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
Delayed Arrival Due to Adverse Weather Conditions
The mortal remains of the martyr reached his ancestral village on Saturday morning, following a delay caused by adverse weather conditions on Friday. The inclement weather had prevented the Army from transporting the body promptly, adding to the family's anguish. As soon as the Army contingent arrived in Sherpur village with the tricolour-wrapped coffin, the entire community was enveloped in profound grief. Scenes of mourning unfolded as family members, especially the martyr's mother and wife, broke down inconsolably, struggling to come to terms with the sudden and tragic loss.
Emotional Last Rites Performed by Seven-Year-Old Son
In a heart-wrenching moment, Martyr Sudhir Narwal's seven-year-old son, Ayansh, performed the last rites, lighting the funeral pyre amid chants and salutes honouring his father's supreme sacrifice. The emotional scene left the entire gathering in tears, as the young boy bravely carried out the rituals while the nation paid tribute to his father's service. Family members shared that Sudhir Narwal had returned from leave only a few months ago and had promised to visit again soon. None could have imagined that this would be his final visit home. His father had passed away several years earlier, and he is survived by his mother, wife, and young son.
Government Officials Express Solidarity and Tribute
Haryana cabinet minister Shyam Singh Rana, while paying floral tributes, emphasized that no compensation can ever truly make up for the sacrifice of a soldier who lays down his life for the nation. He noted that improved facilities now ensure that the mortal remains of martyrs reach their homes with honour, something that was not always possible in earlier times due to lack of infrastructure and attention. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, he said the government stands firmly with them in this difficult time. "Sudhir's family is our family. The loss of a father for a seven-year-old child who is yet to understand the ways of the world is immeasurable," he said, praying for strength for the family to overcome the tragedy.
Presence of Dignitaries and Political Leaders
Several political leaders, senior officers, and dignitaries were present at the funeral to pay their respects. Among them were former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal, BJP district president Rajesh Sapra, former MLA Arjun Singh, Congress leader Shyam Sundar Batra, ADC Naveen Ahuja, SDM Chhachhrauli Rohit Kumar, Subedar Ranjit Singh from the Soldiers' Welfare Board, Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar, head clerk Subedar Jai Krishan, Havildar Rajesh Kumar, along with other officials, ex-servicemen, and prominent citizens. Their presence underscored the collective respect and gratitude for Martyr Sudhir Narwal's service.

The solemn ceremony concluded with military honours, as the nation saluted Martyr Sudhir Narwal for his unwavering service and ultimate sacrifice. The event highlighted the deep emotional impact on the local community and the broader recognition of soldiers' contributions to national security.
