PM Modi Hails Self-Reliance Achievements in Mann Ki Baat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' radio broadcast on June 28, 2026, highlighted several milestones demonstrating India's progress toward self-reliance. He specifically noted the maiden flight of the indigenously produced C-295 aircraft, which he said will boost aerospace manufacturing capabilities and employment opportunities.
C-295 Aircraft: A Boost for Aerospace and MSMEs
Modi emphasized that the C-295 aircraft is being made in India, with 40 such aircraft currently under construction. According to the Prime Minister, this initiative is strengthening Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the aerospace sector. The first made-in-India C-295 military transport aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight on June 10, 2026. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is procuring 56 C-295 transport aircraft at a cost of approximately Rs 21,935 crore. Of these, 40 aircraft will be assembled by Tata Advanced Systems Limited in collaboration with Airbus at a production facility in Vadodara.
Indigenous Naval Ships Inducted
Modi also referenced a Navy-related programme in Kolkata where INS Dunagiri, INS Shanshak, and INS Agrya were inducted into the Indian Navy's fleet. He noted that from design to manufacturing, these ships are entirely indigenous, underscoring India's growing self-reliance in defence production.
International Yoga Day and World Yoga Asana Championship
The Prime Minister mentioned the celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21, 2026, with diverse yoga programmes held at more than 2,500 locations worldwide, involving crores of participants. He highlighted the 'World Yoga Asana Championship' in Ahmedabad, where India won a total of 114 medals, including 102 gold medals, topping the medal tally.
Revival of Shastrarth Tradition at Nalanda University
Modi spoke about the revival of the ancient tradition of 'Shastrarth' by Nalanda University, describing it as a disciplined process of debate, dialogue, and deliberation. He noted that presenting one's point with logic and facts is crucial, and the practice of patiently listening to others' ideas stems from this tradition. Modi expressed gladness that Nalanda University has incorporated Shastrarth into its convocation ceremony.
