Mann Defends AAP's Removal of Raghav Chadha as RS Deputy Leader

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday staunchly defended the Aam Aadmi Party's decision to remove Raghav Chadha from his position as the party's deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. Mann characterized the move as a standard part of internal party operations, emphasizing that any member who breaks from the established party line must face appropriate consequences.

Routine Party Functioning

"This is regular party functioning. It is his call on what statement he wants to make," Mann stated during his remarks. He elaborated further, asserting, "Those who break party lines should be subjected to action." The chief minister drew a parallel to parliamentary procedures, noting that in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, opposition parties make numerous decisions, and any member who contravenes the party directive effectively goes against the party whip.

"Hence, if you go against the whip, you are bound to face action," Mann declared unequivocally. He explained that the Aam Aadmi Party periodically rotates its parliamentary board leader and deputy leader as part of its organizational practices.

Chadha's Alleged Compromised Position

In response to direct questioning, Mann revealed that Chadha is considered "compromised" and has specifically violated the party whip. The Punjab CM contrasted what he described as crucial national issues with what he portrayed as trivial concerns raised by Chadha.

"If the party gives a line – to raise issues like valid votes being deleted in West Bengal, our 160 leaders and volunteers being booked in Gujarat, or Punjab's issues of attempts to polarize communities, or matters concerning minimum support price, or the Centre holding back funds of goods and sales tax or rural development fund," Mann outlined. "But if someone raises issues of samosas at airports or pizza delivery time, won't it raise doubts that he is talking from a different station?"

Delhi AAP President's Accusations

Meanwhile, Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj launched his own criticism against Chadha, accusing him of failing to adhere to the party's parliamentary stance and not participating in opposition protests. "We all are soldiers of Arvind Kejriwal," Bharadwaj declared in a video posted on social media platform X. "The Centre doesn't care about soft PR or talking about samosas at airport canteens when bigger issues are at stake."

Bharadwaj detailed specific grievances, stating, "Whenever the Opposition staged a walkout in Parliament, you did not participate. You did not raise issues concerning Punjab, from where you are elected, and you hid in a foreign country when former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was arrested."

National Media In-Charge's Criticism

AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda also joined the chorus of criticism against Chadha, questioning his commitment to confronting the central government on substantive matters. "In West Bengal, the right to vote is being snatched away. When a proposal against the CEC came up in the House, you refused to sign it," Dhanda posted on X.

Dhanda emphasized the limited speaking time available in Parliament, arguing that it should be utilized to address national concerns rather than minor topics. "In Parliament, we get limited time to speak, and it can be used either to fight for the nation or discuss trivial matters like cheaper samosas at airport canteens," he remarked. Dhanda added that Chadha has shown reluctance to address "real issues" over the past several years.

Chadha's Response

These remarks from AAP leaders emerged just one day after Chadha himself responded to his removal, declaring that he had been "silenced, not defeated." The political development highlights ongoing tensions within the Aam Aadmi Party regarding parliamentary strategy and discipline, with senior leaders presenting a united front in justifying organizational decisions against those perceived as straying from party directives.
