A 27-year-old man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and her mother to death in Virar on Wednesday, a day after his marriage proposal was rejected. The accused then slashed his own throat and was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently under treatment. Police have filed an FIR against him for the murders.
Incident Details
According to Bolinj police, the accused, Shivam Upadhyay, a resident of Nalasopara, worked at his brother's grocery store. On Tuesday, he visited the home of his girlfriend, Nancy Mishra (24), to discuss their marriage with her mother, Sarita Mishra (48). Nancy's father was away at work at the time. Sarita allegedly opposed the marriage, leading to a heated argument. Sources indicate that Nancy herself was not keen on marrying Upadhyay.
The Attack
On Wednesday, Upadhyay returned to the Mishra residence, allegedly locked the flat from the inside, and attacked Nancy and Sarita repeatedly with a kitchen knife. The women sustained multiple stab wounds on their neck, stomach, and back, and died on the spot. Upadhyay then allegedly slashed his own throat with a blade and fell unconscious.
The violent struggle alerted neighbors, who called the police. Upadhyay was taken to a hospital, where he remains under treatment. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further.
