Thiruvananthapuram: Cantonment police arrested a Thiruvananthapuram native for allegedly making repeated threatening phone calls against chief minister V D Satheesan and his family through the city district police command centre (DPCC).

The accused, identified as Sony Thomas, was arrested after he allegedly called the official DPCC number several times on Friday evening and threatened to kill the chief minister and members of his family. Police said the accused is undergoing treatment for mental health issues.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 6:50pm when a police officer attending calls at the command centre received a call from the accused. During the conversation, Thomas allegedly threatened the chief minister and his family. When the officer asked him why he was making such remarks, the accused reportedly replied that he did not like the chief minister.

Police said the accused continued making calls and repeated the threats. During one of the calls, he allegedly abused the officer and claimed that he wanted to become famous by killing the chief minister and his family. In another call made from the same number, the accused allegedly mocked police over the security arrangements provided to the chief minister.

“He was continuously making threatening calls and mocking the security arrangements for the chief minister. Following this, one of our officers lodged a complaint with Cantonment police,” a police source said.

The accused has been booked under Sections 353(1)(b), 351(4) and 296(b) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 120(o) of Kerala Police Act for causing nuisance through repeated unwanted communications.
