Madurai District Collector Champions Voter Participation Through Marathon Event
In a significant initiative to boost electoral engagement, Madurai District Collector and District Election Officer K J Praveen Kumar actively participated in a marathon held at the Madurai District Collectorate premises on Tuesday. The event was meticulously organized as part of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, aiming to emphasize the critical importance of achieving a 100% voter turnout in the upcoming elections.
Marathon Route and Community Involvement
The marathon commenced at the collectorate and followed a carefully planned route that passed several notable landmarks in Madurai. Participants ran past the Gandhi Museum, Tamukkam Ground, American College, and Goripalayam, ultimately concluding back at the collectorate. This route not only promoted physical fitness but also symbolically connected various community hubs to the message of civic duty.
Student Engagement and Pledge Activities
A key highlight of the event was the active involvement of school and college students, who took a solemn oath to ensure maximum voter participation in their communities. Following the run, Collector Praveen Kumar led the students in a pledge-taking ceremony, reinforcing the slogan "My Vote, My Duty". Additionally, a promise wall was set up where participants decorated it with post-it notes, each expressing their commitment to voting and encouraging others to do the same.
