Households in Gurugram are feeling the pinch as the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 29, effective from midnight. The new rate pushes the cost to Rs 979.5, making it the most expensive in Haryana.
Second Hike in Three Months
This is the second price hike within three months, following a Rs 60 increase on March 7. Cumulatively, LPG cylinders have become Rs 89 more expensive in the past three months. Global market volatility, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions, is cited as the primary reason for these increases.
District-wise LPG Prices
The revision affects consumers across all districts, with varying price points. Fatehabad follows Gurugram with a new price of Rs 971, while Panchkula and Yamunanagar see rates of Rs 968.5. Residents in Hisar and Mahendragarh will now pay Rs 960, while Rohtak and Faridabad have reached Rs 944 and Rs 943, respectively.
Other Fuel Segments Also Affected
The LPG price hike is compounded by upward trends in other fuel segments. Over the past few weeks, petrol and diesel prices have collectively increased by Rs 7.5 per liter, while CNG has become approximately Rs 6 per kg more expensive.
Oil Marketing Companies Still at Loss
Despite the hikes, industry reports suggest that oil marketing companies are still operating at a loss, as they continue to sell petrol and diesel at prices below actual cost. Government officials maintain that only a portion of the rising global crude oil costs is being passed on to consumers, with state-run companies absorbing a significant part of the burden.
