Indian Left Parties Condemn US 'Aggression', Call for Nationwide Protests Over Venezuela
Left Parties Condemn US, Call Protests for Venezuela

In a powerful show of solidarity, five prominent Left-wing political parties in India have issued a scathing condemnation of the United States' recent military actions against Venezuela. The parties have termed the operation, which led to the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, an act of "aggression" and "kidnapping", blatantly violating international law.

A Unified Condemnation from the Indian Left

The joint statement was released on Sunday by the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP). They collectively denounced the US operation as a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter. The statement expressed grave concern over the unfolding situation, linking it to a broader pattern of US imperialism.

The parties referenced US President Donald Trump's announcement on Saturday confirming that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was taken into custody following a major military strike. Reports indicate Maduro is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn and is set to face federal charges related to drugs and weapons in Manhattan. The US had previously imposed sanctions on Venezuela and offered a $50 million bounty for Maduro's arrest.

Unveiling the 'Real Intentions' Behind the Action

The Left parties' statement went beyond the immediate event, analysing the strategic motives behind the US move. They highlighted President Trump's address, where he stated the intent to "capture the oil reserves of Venezuela," which the parties say reveals the true economic driver of the aggression.

Furthermore, the statement pointed to warnings from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Cuba and Mexico as evidence of expanding US ambitions. The parties connected these actions to the recently released US National Security Strategy 2025, concluding that "US imperialism seeks to impose its hegemony over the entire world." They accused the US of attempting to enforce a "Trump corollary of the infamous Monroe Doctrine," which treats the Western Hemisphere as its exclusive backyard.

Call for Nationwide Protests and Government Action

In response to these developments, the Indian Left parties have issued a clarion call for public mobilization. They have announced plans for nationwide protests against US aggression and in solidarity with the people of Venezuela and Latin America.

"We appeal to all peace-loving, anti-imperialist people of our country to mobilise in large numbers and actively participate in these protests," the joint statement urged. The parties also directed a demand at the Indian government, stating, "The Government of India must join the voices of countries across the world condemning US aggression and stand firmly with Venezuela."

The statement concluded by extending full support to the Venezuelan people who are mobilising to defend their country's sovereignty against what they perceive as an unlawful foreign intervention. This strong stance from the Indian Left underscores the global geopolitical reverberations of the Venezuela crisis.
