In a move that has stirred fresh controversy within one of Bihar's most prominent political families, Rohini Acharya, the Singapore-based daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, posted a cryptic message on social media alongside a picture of herself posing with a firearm. The post comes months after a very public fallout with her brother and party heir apparent, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.
A Cryptic Message and a Provocative Picture
On Tuesday, Rohini Acharya took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo where she is seen holding a gun. Accompanying the image was a Hindi message that translates to: "Sahi galat pahchanane ki nazar bhi durust hai aur nishana bhi," meaning she "has the eye to tell right from wrong and a perfect aim." The location of the photo remains unclear, adding to the enigmatic nature of the post.
This development follows another post from the previous day, where Rohini revealed that her 18-year-old elder son had enrolled for basic military training. In Singapore, such training, known as National Service, is compulsory for all male citizens and second-generation permanent residents upon turning 18.
The Roots of the RJD Family Rift
The current tension traces back to November last year, immediately after the results of the Bihar assembly elections. The RJD, despite being the single largest party, could not form the government. A visibly upset Rohini Acharya squarely blamed the party's electoral rout on the aides of her younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav.
The fallout was severe and public. Rohini stormed out of the family's official residence in Patna, declaring she was quitting politics and "disowning" her family. She made serious allegations, claiming she was insulted, shown a slipper, and forced to leave her parental home, holding her brother responsible for the humiliation.
From Organ Donor to Political Candidate
Rohini Acharya first captured national headlines in December 2022 for a deeply personal act of sacrifice. She donated one of her kidneys to her ailing father, Lalu Prasad, who was facing severe health complications. The life-saving transplant surgery was conducted in Singapore, where she resides.
Venturing into active politics, she contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from the Saran constituency, a traditional Yadav stronghold. However, she faced defeat in the electoral battle. Despite stepping back from politics after the family feud, she re-emerged in the public discourse last month by appealing to the Bihar government to ensure every woman could live safely in her parental home—a statement many saw as a reflection of her own experiences.
The latest social media post, with its combative undertones, suggests the wounds from the family and political dispute are far from healed. It leaves observers questioning whether this marks another chapter in the internal dynamics of the RJD's first family and what implications it may hold for the party's future in Bihar.
