The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association has announced that all eateries across the state will remain closed for 24 hours on May 6 in protest against the recent hike in LPG prices. The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the association, where members expressed strong resentment over the rising cost of cooking gas, which they claim is severely impacting the restaurant industry.
Protest Details
According to the association, protest marches and dharnas will be organized in front of the offices of petroleum companies and central government establishments across Kerala. The shutdown is expected to affect thousands of hotels, restaurants, and food joints, causing inconvenience to customers but drawing attention to the plight of small and medium eateries.
Industry Impact
The association stated that the LPG price hike has increased operational costs, forcing many establishments to struggle for survival. They urged the central government to roll back the price increase and provide subsidies to the hospitality sector. The protest aims to highlight the financial burden on eateries, which are already recovering from the effects of the pandemic.
All member establishments are instructed to participate in the shutdown and join the demonstrations. The association has also called for support from the public and other trade organizations to amplify the demand for affordable LPG prices.
