DMK's Kanimozhi Launches Scathing Attack on NDA During Madurai Campaign Rally
DMK MP Kanimozhi delivered a forceful critique of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Thursday while campaigning in Madurai, emphatically stating that the people of Tamil Nadu have firmly rejected the BJP-led coalition and are instead rallying behind the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA). Addressing a gathering in support of DMK candidate Bhoominathan for the Madurai South constituency, Kanimozhi articulated that voters are determined to support only those political forces capable of safeguarding the future and aspirations of the Tamil people and their children.
"People Are Not Ready to Vote for You": Kanimozhi's Direct Challenge to NDA
"The electorate has made their position clear—they are not prepared to cast their votes in your favor," declared Kanimozhi, directing her remarks toward the NDA. "Instead, they are fully prepared to endorse the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and our alliance, which has demonstrated a proven capacity to fulfill the commitments made under the leadership of our Chief Minister. The people of Tamil Nadu are ready to vote for those who will genuinely protect and nurture the future of Tamil people and Tamil children."
She characterized the DMK-led alliance as one founded on consistent policy principles rather than political expediency. Taking a sharp jab at AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami, Kanimozhi highlighted what she described as a glaring contradiction in his party's stance. "Our alliance is fundamentally policy-based. It does not shift with the winds of opportunity nor is it driven by mere convenience. This is a people-centric coalition that will continue its journey with unwavering commitment and stability," she asserted.
"Recall that years ago, Edappadi Palaniswami himself declared unequivocally that he would never, under any circumstances, form an alliance with the BJP. Yet today, they stand together on the same platform, hand in hand. They come before you seeking votes based on such blatant contradictions," Kanimozhi added, questioning the credibility of the opposition alliance.
Countering BJP's "Anti-Hindu" Allegations with Temple Consecration Data
Kanimozhi also firmly rebuffed the BJP's recurring accusation that the DMK maintains an "anti-Hindu" stance, pointing to concrete evidence of temple restoration and consecration work undertaken by the state government. "The BJP persistently claims that the DMK is against Hindus. However, the reality on the ground tells a completely different story. Under this government, more than 4,000 temples have undergone sacred consecration ceremonies, known as Kumbabhishekam. This stands as clear and undeniable evidence of our commitment," she stated, presenting this as proof of the administration's dedication to Hindu religious institutions.
Welfare Promises Fulfilled and Future Commitments Outlined
On the topic of welfare schemes, Kanimozhi highlighted the government's successful implementation of its pledge to provide monthly financial assistance to women. "During the last election, we made a solemn promise to deliver Rs 1,000 as monthly assistance to women across the state. We have not only made that promise but have faithfully fulfilled it. Looking ahead, if we are entrusted with power again in the next term, this assistance will be substantially increased to Rs 2,000 per month," she announced, outlining a key future commitment to the electorate.
Criticism of Central Government on LPG Prices and "Make in India"
The DMK leader further criticized the Central government over escalating LPG cylinder prices and ongoing supply concerns, directly questioning the efficacy of the "Make in India" initiative. "Even in the aftermath of global conflicts, numerous nations have managed to function without experiencing shortages of gas cylinders. Yet, under Prime Minister Modi's much-touted 'Make in India' claims, a significant portion of LPG cylinders are not genuinely manufactured within India but are largely imported from foreign countries. Consequently, there is now widespread uncertainty regarding how long gas supplies will remain stable," she explained.
"This crisis has placed immense strain on many lodges and restaurants. The price of gas has nearly doubled, subjecting these businesses to severe financial pressure and operational challenges," Kanimozhi added, linking policy to practical hardships faced by citizens.
Confident Appeal to Voters Based on Track Record
Kanimozhi concluded by asserting that the DMK is approaching the electorate with "pride and confidence," seeking support based squarely on its performance and achievements over the past five years. Tamil Nadu is scheduled to vote in a single phase on April 23 across all 234 constituencies, with the counting of votes set for May 4, marking a critical juncture in the state's political landscape.
