In a concerning incident on Friday, former Lokayukta and Supreme Court judge Justice N Santosh Hegde collapsed during a public event in Bengaluru. The 85-year-old legal luminary was attending a felicitation ceremony for former minister and state chief commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, PGR Sindhia, held at the Kondajji Basappa Auditorium on Palace Road.
Sudden Health Scare During Speech
According to sources present at the venue, Justice Hegde had just concluded a brief speech and was returning to his seat when he suddenly fell ill. Witnesses reported that he vomited while attempting to sit down and then collapsed while trying to descend from the stage.
Assembly Speaker UT Khader, who was also present at the program, provided immediate assistance. "He was provided with first aid and rushed to hospital in my car as there was no ambulance available at the venue," Khader stated. "We informed his family members, and they arrived at the hospital promptly. He responded to treatment and was able to speak and respond to our gestures."
Hospital Confirms Stable Condition and Discharge
Justice Hegde was taken to Manipal Hospital on Millers Road for emergency medical care. An official bulletin from the hospital confirmed that he was under medical supervision and doing fine. "Justice Santosh Hegde is under medical supervision in emergency response at our hospital. He is doing fine and will be discharged in a few hours," the statement read.
Later in the day, Justice Hegde himself spoke to the media over the phone, reassuring everyone about his health. "The doctors told me that I collapsed due to low blood pressure," he explained. "I went for treatment earlier in the day and was prescribed some new medicines. They said it might have been because of that. I've been discharged and am at home now. I'll continue with my follow-up care with the doctors."
