India is celebrating its 77th Republic Day on Monday, with grand nationwide events commemorating the adoption of the Constitution and showcasing the country's rich cultural and military heritage. This significant day honors the historic moment when India's Constitution came into effect, establishing it as a sovereign republic.

Vande Mataram Theme and Kartavya Path Celebrations

The main Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path in New Delhi are centered around the theme of the 150th Anniversary of the national song, Vande Mataram. This timeless anthem has played a crucial role in awakening the spirit of Swadeshi, self-reliance, and freedom within India's national consciousness over the decades.

Kartavya Path, which stretches from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the National War Memorial, has been elaborately decorated to reflect India's remarkable journey through the years. According to an official release from the Ministry of Defence, this year's celebrations will present a unique blend of the 150-year legacy of Vande Mataram, the country's developmental progress, military strength, cultural diversity, and participation from citizens across all sections of society.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are presiding over the main ceremony at Kartavya Path in the national capital. Adding international significance to the event, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, are attending the celebrations as chief guests.

Nationwide Greetings and Messages

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the nation on the 77th Republic Day, urging citizens to renew their commitment to a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India). In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi stated, "Greetings to all countrymen on Republic Day. This national festival, symbolising India's pride and honour, should infuse new energy and enthusiasm, strengthening the resolve for Viksit Bharat."

The Indian Air Force has also extended warm wishes on this auspicious occasion, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the nation's skies with honour and courage through a dedicated post on X.

Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi conveyed heartfelt greetings to citizens, emphasizing that Republic Day provides people with the opportunity to express gratitude to the immortal heroes who made the supreme sacrifice and displayed unparalleled bravery in the line of duty.

Security Arrangements and Preparations

The national capital has been placed on high alert for the 77th Republic Day celebrations, with intensified security checks underway across the Delhi-NCR region. Police personnel have conducted thorough vehicle checks at multiple borders including Gurugram, Chilla, Tikri, Singhu, Kapashera, Badarpur, and Dhaula Kuan amid heightened security arrangements.
