An operation theatre attendant at a civil hospital in Pipariya town, Madhya Pradesh, wielded a scalpel and performed unauthorised surgery on a patient, leading to his suspension. The incident came to light eight days after the procedure when the victim, a resident of Singanama village, complained to the block medical officer, officials said.
Details of the Incident
The attendant, whose identity has not been disclosed, was not qualified to perform surgical procedures. He allegedly conducted the surgery without any authorisation or supervision from a licensed doctor. The patient, who had sought treatment at the hospital, later discovered that the surgery was performed by an unauthorised individual.
Action Taken
Upon receiving the complaint, the block medical officer launched an inquiry and subsequently suspended the attendant. The hospital administration has assured strict action against the individual and a review of security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
Patient Safety Concerns
This incident has raised serious concerns about patient safety and the enforcement of medical regulations in government hospitals. Authorities are investigating how the attendant gained access to surgical instruments and the operation theatre without detection.
The victim is reported to be in stable condition, but the incident has sparked outrage among local residents who demand better oversight and accountability in healthcare facilities.
