Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of misusing central investigative agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as tools to settle political scores and influence elections. Speaking at a press conference in Shimla, Sukhu alleged that the BJP-led central government has been weaponizing these agencies to target opposition leaders and parties, particularly ahead of crucial polls.
Allegations of Political Vendetta
Sukhu claimed that the BJP's modus operandi involves deploying these agencies to harass and intimidate political rivals, thereby creating an uneven playing field. He cited recent raids and summons issued to Congress leaders as evidence of a systematic campaign to destabilize the opposition. The Chief Minister argued that such actions undermine the democratic fabric of the country and violate the principles of fair play.
Threat to Federal Structure
Expressing concern over the erosion of federalism, Sukhu stated that the misuse of central agencies infringes upon the rights of state governments. He emphasized that the Congress party is committed to exposing this misuse and will continue to fight against what he termed as 'political witch-hunts'. BJP's Response
In response, the BJP dismissed Sukhu's allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
