Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy Responds to Viral Video with Visit to Ailing Woman in Mysuru
In a swift response to a viral social media appeal, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy visited Hullahalli village near Nanjangud in Mysuru district on Friday. The minister's visit was prompted by a video that highlighted the dire condition of a seriously ill young woman, which had rapidly gained traction online.
Viral Appeal Leads to Ministerial Intervention
The video, shared by a local youth named Chetan, showcased the plight of 24-year-old Pooja, who has been bedridden for several months following multiple surgeries that resulted in severe spinal complications. Chetan's appeal urged the public to circulate the clip until it reached the Union minister, a strategy that proved successful as Kumaraswamy took immediate action after viewing it.
Upon arrival, the minister visited the family's rented house to personally assess their situation and offer support. Pooja's family has been grappling with significant financial hardship, exacerbated by her medical condition. Her husband, Ravi, is unable to work due to injuries sustained in a bus accident involving the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). To cover mounting medical expenses, the family has reportedly sold their house and agricultural land, leaving them in a precarious position.
Immediate and Long-Term Assistance Assured
During his visit, Kumaraswamy consoled the family and assured them of immediate assistance. He took proactive steps by speaking to the KSRTC managing director, urging that compensation related to Ravi's accident be expedited through a Lok Adalat settlement. Additionally, the minister contacted the family's landlord and committed to personally paying the lease amount to prevent eviction, providing much-needed housing security.
For longer-term support, Kumaraswamy instructed the Nanjangud tahsildar to help arrange a small shop for the family, aiming to create a sustainable source of income. He also directed local representatives to closely monitor Pooja's ongoing treatment and ensure her children's education is supported, emphasizing a holistic approach to the family's welfare.
Community and Government Collaboration
This incident underscores the power of social media in drawing attention to critical issues and facilitating government intervention. Kumaraswamy's prompt response highlights a commitment to addressing grassroots concerns, with his actions spanning financial aid, healthcare access, and livelihood support. The minister's involvement is expected to set a precedent for similar cases, encouraging collaborative efforts between communities and authorities to assist vulnerable individuals in distress.
The visit has brought renewed hope to Pooja's family, who now await the implementation of the promised measures. As the story continues to unfold, it serves as a reminder of the importance of timely governmental action in alleviating the hardships faced by citizens, particularly in times of medical and financial crisis.
