NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday stated that future wars will not be determined solely by weaponry, but by innovative thinking and enhanced synergy among the armed forces. Speaking at the second edition of the Joint Commanders' Conference in Jaipur, he advised commanders of the three services to cultivate the element of surprise in any situation, as it is essential for securing a strategic edge.
Emphasis on Technology and Preparedness
Singh underscored the need to strengthen capabilities in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, data analytics, and secure communication networks to remain prepared in the rapidly evolving geopolitical security scenario. He advised commanders to remain vigilant of the enemy's surprise elements and always stay two steps ahead. He emphasised that future conflicts will be increasingly shaped by hybrid threats, information dominance, and operations conducted simultaneously across cyber, space, electromagnetic, and cognitive domains.
Integrated National Preparedness
Highlighting the transformative impact of emerging technologies, the defence minister stressed the importance of ensuring integrated national preparedness across all spectrums of conflict. He appreciated the progress achieved in enhancing jointness, integration, and technological adoption across the three services. Singh noted that jointness constitutes a pivotal dimension within the transformative changes sweeping the global defence sector.
Operation Sindoor as a Model
Calling upon commanders to remain future-ready by learning from Operation Sindoor and the current global security landscape, Singh described the operation as a testament to the swift, precise, and joint response of the Indian defence forces to safeguard national interests. Releasing a documentary film on Operation Sindoor, he characterised it as a short-duration, deep-penetration, high-intensity, and high-impact operation that showcased India's ability to compel an adversary to surrender. The operation was a demonstration of India's growing capabilities and a symbol of the nation's collective resolve and new military ethos.
Government Commitments and Releases
Rajnath reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the defence forces through state-of-the-art weapons and platforms, with special focus on research in niche domains. He also released the Hindi version of Vision 2047 and the Joint Doctrine for Integrated Communication Architecture, aimed at strengthening doctrinal clarity, interoperability, and integrated communications across the armed forces in future multi-domain operations.
