Four of family drown in Aji Dam near Rajkot

Rajkot: Four members of a family drowned in Aji Dam near Rajkot on Sunday, police said, adding that three bodies have been recovered while a search is on for the fourth.

Victims Identified

The victims were identified as Bharat Jadav (42), an autorickshaw driver, his sons Dhaval and Rohit, and their cousin Dhruv Makwana. The family resided in Ghanchiwad area of Rajkot, while Dhruv was from Khambhala village.

Incident Details

According to deputy commissioner of police (Zone 1) Hetal Patel, the family had visited the Mogal Mataji temple and later went to Aji Dam for a picnic. Preliminary investigation suggests that one of them may have accidentally fallen into the water, following which the others jumped in to rescue him. All four drowned in the process.

Rescue Operation

The bodies of Bharat, Dhaval and Dhruv were recovered and sent for postmortem. The search for Rohit was ongoing at the time of filing the report. On receiving the information, teams from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation fire department, Aji Dam police station led by police inspector Haresh Patel, and the local crime branch rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Police said bathing in the Aji Dam reservoir is prohibited.
