Forged Letter Circulating Online Sparks Police Action Against Unknown Culprit
Police in Delhi have taken serious action following a formal complaint from Union Cabinet Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's office. They registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Monday against an unknown individual. This action stems from a forged letter that has been circulating online.
Letter Bears Forged Signature and Official Letterhead
The controversial document falsely carries Sonowal's signature and uses his official letterhead. It claims to be addressed to the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The contents of this fabricated letter attempt to show Sonowal expressing worry about the BJP's prospects in the upcoming Assam assembly election.
Specifically, the forged letter suggests Sonowal believes the party might lose and requests a different chief ministerial candidate. Sarbananda Sonowal served as the Chief Minister of Assam from 2016 to 2021 before joining the Union Cabinet.
Complaint Alleges Malafide Intent to Create Chaos
Sonowal's Assistant Personal Secretary filed the official complaint at the Parliament Street police station. The complaint clearly states the letter is completely forged. It accuses the unknown creator of having malafide intent.
The primary alleged motive is to cause political disharmony in Assam, which is currently an election-bound state. The complaint further argues the forgery aims to damage the reputation of the Union Minister both at the national level and within Assam.
The police have registered the case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and forgery. The complaint urgently requests a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute the person responsible for this serious act.
Timing Raises Concerns Ahead of Key Elections
The complaint highlights the critical timing of this incident. It occurred just as elections for the Assam legislative assembly are expected to be announced soon. The forged letter appears designed to create political chaos and confusion during this sensitive period.
Authorities are now working to trace the origin of the fake document circulating online. The case underscores the challenges of misinformation and forged communications in the modern political landscape, especially during election seasons.
