A fire erupted at the official residence of BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at the home located on Mother Teresa Crescent Road in the Chanakyapuri area.
No Injuries Reported in the Blaze
Fortunately, nobody sustained any injuries during the fire. Prasad confirmed this in a post on social media platform X. He mentioned that he, along with his wife and son, were in Patna at the time of the incident.
Fire Brigade Responds Promptly
The fire department received an alert about the blaze at 8:05 AM. They immediately dispatched three fire tenders and a team of twenty firefighters to the scene. The responders acted swiftly to contain the fire.
The fire was brought under control by 8:35 AM, according to a fire official. The team ensured that the flames did not spread to neighboring areas or nearby structures, preventing further damage.
Possible Cause Under Investigation
The fire originated in an outdoor room at the residence. Initial reports suggest it might have been triggered by a short circuit. Prasad himself indicated this possibility in his social media post, noting that some household items were damaged.
A police officer stated that the room was locked at the time. Authorities are probing whether the fire started due to a short circuit or an electrical appliance left switched on. Such an appliance could have ignited nearby combustible materials.
Forensic Teams Collect Evidence
Forensic teams visited the spot to gather evidence. Their findings will help determine the exact cause of the fire. At the time of the incident, security officials and caretakers were present at the house, assisting in the response.
Prasad Expresses Gratitude
In his post, Prasad thanked the fire brigade for their quick response. He also expressed appreciation for the well-wishes from everyone. "We are all safe. Thank you for everyone's well wishes," he wrote.
Similar Incident Last Year
This fire follows another incident last year at Brahmaputra Apartments in New Delhi. That residential complex houses members of the Rajya Sabha. A fire broke out there, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the capital.
The investigation into the fire at Prasad's residence continues. Authorities are working to confirm the cause and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
