A man and his son were arrested near Pochampally on Sunday for allegedly stealing a goat and two lanterns from a house in Durunjimarathukkottai village near Veeramalai in broad daylight.
Details of the incident
The arrested individuals have been identified as Subramani, 56, and his son Surya, 22, residents of Manjupatti village near Mathur. According to police, the theft took place around 11 am at the residence of S Venkatesan in Durunjimarathukkottai village. Venkatesan was sleeping in front of his house when two men arrived on a two-wheeler and stole two lanterns and a Kamakshi lamp. They also took a goat that was being raised for a temple.
How the thieves were caught
When the thieves attempted to flee, Venkatesan was awakened by the goat's cries. He chased them on his own two-wheeler for several kilometers and tried to stop them at Puttanur. Fearing capture, the duo abandoned the goat and other stolen items and attempted to escape. However, locals surrounded them and handed them over to the police, said an officer from the Nagarasampatty station.
