Delhi Chief Minister Honors COVID-19 Duty Martyrs with Financial Assistance
In a solemn ceremony held in New Delhi on Wednesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta personally distributed cheques worth Rs 1 crore each as financial assistance to the grieving families of six Delhi government employees. These brave individuals tragically lost their lives while performing their duties during the devastating COVID-19 pandemic.
A Gesture of Heartfelt Gratitude and Respect
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that this initiative was far more than a bureaucratic formality. "This is a heartfelt expression of our gratitude, empathy, and deepest respect," she stated. She highlighted the extraordinary courage displayed by the employees during a period of global crisis. "At a time when the world was gripped by fear and uncertainty, these brave individuals put duty above everything else. They continued to serve the people selflessly, without worrying about their own lives," the Chief Minister remarked, her words echoing the sentiment of a grateful administration.
Government Pledges Continued Support as an Extended Family
During her interactions with the bereaved families, CM Gupta offered assurances of the Delhi government's unwavering support. According to an official statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), she promised that the administration would stand by them like an extended family, providing all possible assistance in the future. This commitment aims to offer not just financial relief but also long-term solidarity.
Beneficiaries Span Multiple Government Departments
The financial assistance was extended to families connected with various key departments and institutions in the capital. The six families were related to deceased employees from:
- Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)
- Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC)
- Delhi Jal Board
- Indian Spinal Injuries Centre
- New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)
- Maulana Azad Medical College
The CMO statement further clarified that the beneficiaries also included families of the late Delhi Traffic Police assistant sub-inspector Radhey Shyam and a deceased child from Dwarka, broadening the scope of recognition.

Chief Minister Gupta also took a moment to express regret over the delay in disbursing this crucial assistance, which she attributed to the previous government in Delhi.
