Congress Poses 10 Questions to PM Modi Ahead of Uttarakhand Expressway Inauguration

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Uttarakhand for the inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun expressway on Tuesday, the opposition Congress party has raised ten pointed questions directed at the Prime Minister, demanding accountability on several critical issues plaguing the Himalayan state.

School Closures and Education Concerns

Addressing a press conference in Dehradun on Monday, Uttarakhand Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal highlighted that 889 schools have been shut down during the BJP's tenure in the state. "The Prime Minister should respond to this issue directly," Godiyal asserted, emphasizing the impact on education accessibility in remote areas.

Law and Order Challenges

Godiyal raised serious concerns about deteriorating law and order, specifically citing the Rishikesh resort murder case, where questions continue to be raised against senior BJP leaders. "Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had assured a CBI investigation months ago, but despite this promise, the status of the investigation remains completely unclear," he stated.

He further referenced National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data indicating that Uttarakhand has become the leading Himalayan state in crimes against women. "Women, children, journalists, ex-servicemen—no one feels safe in the state. Murders and crimes are occurring in broad daylight, with serious allegations also being leveled against members of the ruling party," Godiyal added.

Human-Wildlife Conflict and Rural Issues

The Congress leader also spotlighted the escalating human-wildlife conflict, particularly in rural hill areas where villagers face continuous threats from wild animals. He demanded that the PM clarify what concrete steps the state government is taking to address this pressing safety concern.

Employment and Governance Problems

Additional questions focused on employment generation, measures against drug supply, recruitment scams, and paper leak incidents. Godiyal criticized the delay in regularizing UPNL employees and noted the concerning increase in the number of liquor shops in hill areas, which he argued exacerbates social issues.

The Congress's comprehensive questioning comes at a politically sensitive moment, as the state prepares for the high-profile inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun expressway—a significant infrastructure project expected to boost connectivity and economic activity in the region.
