Congress leaders urge CM to induct Belur Gopala Krishna

Shivamogga: Senior Congress functionary BR Jayanth and other local functionaries from Sagar taluk have urged Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to induct three-time Sagar MLA Belur Gopala Krishna into his cabinet. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Jayanth highlighted Gopala Krishna’s strong leadership and mass appeal among the youth. He noted that while Madhu Bangarappa has served as Education Minister for three years, giving the politically crucial Shivamogga district two ministerial berths would further strengthen the party against the BJP stronghold.

Protest March Planned

Sagar Block Congress president Kalase Chandrappa announced a protest march on June 11 to draw the high command’s attention, following a special puja at the Marikamba Temple in Sagar. Other leaders, including Hosanagara Block president Chandramouli and APCOS president Indudhara Gowda, praised Gopala Krishna’s dedication, recalling his willingness to resign to protest the Besur nuclear plant issue.

Support from Former Officials

Former ZP member Anita Kumari and former TP member Somashekhar Lavigere emphasized his background, noting that he revived the loss-making Karnataka Forest Industries Development Corporation. They added that his induction would expedite solutions for the Sharavathi displaced families, forest land cultivators, and Bagir Hukum farmers.
