Sonipat: The Congress on Thursday mounted a sharp attack on the BJP government at a massive workers' convention in Sonipat ahead of the municipal corporation (MC) elections, accusing the ruling party of corruption, poor governance, and neglect of civic infrastructure.

Hariprasad alleges institutionalised corruption

Addressing party workers, Haryana Congress in-charge B K Hariprasad alleged that the state was witnessing institutionalised corruption and governance paralysis under the BJP government. He claimed that despite tall promises of development, urban local bodies were struggling with poor civic services and weak infrastructure. 'BJP government has mastered the art of publicity, but failed in governance,' he said, urging Congress workers to strengthen booth-level mobilisation ahead of the polls.

State president hits out at scams

Congress state president Rao Narendra Singh alleged that corruption and scams had become synonymous with the BJP government. Claiming that the political mood in Haryana was shifting in favour of the Congress, he appealed to voters to ensure a decisive mandate for Congress candidates in the civic polls.

Hooda draws contrast between Congress and BJP rule

Leader of opposition and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleged that the BJP government had collapsed on every parameter of governance and claimed corruption in municipal corporations had reached alarming levels. Drawing a contrast between the Congress and BJP governments, Hooda said Haryana witnessed rapid development and stronger public welfare delivery during Congress rule, while the BJP regime had been marked by broken promises and administrative failures. 'The people now want accountability, transparency and change,' Hooda said.

Raj Babbar accuses BJP of shattering aspirations

Congress leader Raj Babbar accused the BJP government of shattering the aspirations of the common man through inflation, unemployment, and corruption. He alleged that development works in municipal corporations had virtually stalled and citizens were being deprived of basic civic facilities. Calling the civic polls a battle to protect democracy and constitutional values, Babbar said only the Congress could provide transparent and people-centric governance.
