Chhattisgarh CM Makes 'Godaan' Tax-Free, Launches Trailer

In a significant move to promote cattle conservation through cinema, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that the film 'Godaan' will be made tax-free for audiences across the state. The announcement came during the official trailer launch event held at the chief minister's residence in Raipur.

First-Ever Film on 'Gau Mata' Receives Government Backing

Touted as India's pioneering cinematic venture centred entirely on 'Gau Mata' (the sacred cow), 'Godaan' has garnered substantial support from the Chhattisgarh government. Chief Minister Sai emphasized his administration's unwavering commitment to the protection and promotion of cattle, highlighting the cow's dual significance as both a spiritual symbol and an entity of economic and scientific value.

Enhanced Support for Cattle Welfare Initiatives

The state government has implemented several measures to bolster cattle welfare, including:

  • Increasing the per-cow fodder grant from ₹20 to ₹35 for cattle shelters (gaushalas)
  • Providing financial assistance of ₹25 lakh to each gaushala to improve infrastructure and care
  • Establishing 'Godham' facilities specifically designed to house and care for stray cattle

These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by cattle in the region.

Cinema as a Tool for Conservation Awareness

Chief Minister Sai stressed the importance of raising public awareness about cattle conservation, noting that organic manure derived from cow dung serves as the foundation of organic farming practices. He expressed confidence that cinema could effectively disseminate positive messages about cattle welfare to a broader audience, making films like 'Godaan' valuable educational tools.

Film Production and Release Details

Produced by Kamdhenu Film Productions under the direction of Vinod Chaudhary, 'Godaan' is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on February 6. The producer-director was present at the trailer launch event in Raipur, where he expressed gratitude for the government's support.

The tax-free status announcement is expected to make the film more accessible to viewers while aligning with the state's broader cattle conservation objectives. This move represents a unique intersection of cultural expression and public policy in Chhattisgarh.
