Punjab Finance Minister Issues Clear Directions for Historical Haveli Renovation
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema made an important announcement on Monday. He confirmed that specific directions have been issued to the district administration. These directions concern the estimated expenses for renovating and maintaining Sewa Singh Thikriwala's haveli.
Commemorating a Freedom Fighter's Legacy
The finance minister spoke at a gathering in Barnala. This event marked the 92nd death anniversary of Sewa Singh Thikriwala. January 20 holds special significance each year. It marks the death anniversary of this prominent historical figure.
Sewa Singh Thikriwala played a crucial role in Punjab's freedom movement. He spearheaded the Praja Mandal movement. This was a self-rule movement against the rulers of Punjab's erstwhile princely states. His commitment to the cause was absolute. He died in jail in 1935 while on a hunger strike.
Since that tragic event, his native village has honored his memory annually. A memorial is held from January 18 to January 20 every year. The haveli stands as a physical reminder of his sacrifice and leadership.
Multiple Development Projects Announced Simultaneously
Minister Cheema's announcement about the haveli renovation was part of broader development news. He confirmed that work on the Nursing College in Thikriwala village will be expedited. This college represents a significant educational initiative. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann originally announced its construction in 2023.
Monday's event also featured other substantial infrastructure announcements. Leaders laid the foundation stone for constructing 12.99 kilometers of roads in Thikriwala village. This project carries an estimated cost of Rs 959.49 lakh. Such infrastructure development aims to improve connectivity and accessibility for local residents.
Additional Statements from Other Leaders
Lok Sabha MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer provided additional context about regional development. He revealed that Barnala has received substantial investment in recent years. Specifically, the area has received projects worth Rs 300 crore from the Irrigation Department over the past four years alone.
Cabinet Minister Aman Arora offered historical perspective during his remarks. He emphasized the special significance of Thikriwala village. According to Arora, the residents of Thikriwala are heirs to important land. This is the very land where Sewa Singh Thikriwala began his struggle for people's welfare.
The combined announcements create a comprehensive picture of development efforts. These efforts honor historical legacy while addressing contemporary needs. The renovation of the historical haveli represents both cultural preservation and respect for Punjab's freedom movement history.
