CDS General Anil Chauhan Inaugurates Cultural Heritage Centre in Uttarakhand's Border Region
In a significant move to bolster cultural preservation and regional development, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan visited the border area of Harsil in Uttarakhand on Thursday. During his visit, he laid the foundation stone for a new cultural and heritage centre, marking a pivotal step in efforts to safeguard the rich history of the Garhwal region and promote tourism.
Preserving Local Heritage and Boosting Tourism
The establishment of this cultural centre is part of a broader initiative to protect and celebrate the unique heritage of Garhwal. By creating a dedicated space for local history, the project aims to attract tourists and foster economic growth in the area. District Magistrate Prashant Arya briefed General Chauhan on ongoing development schemes and administrative activities, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and services in this remote region.
Engagement with Local Communities and Troops
General Chauhan actively engaged with residents living under the Vibrant Villages Programme, praising their crucial role in nation-building. He emphasized that empowering border areas is essential not only for national security but also for overall development. The CDS stressed that strong, vibrant communities in these regions contribute directly to the country's stability and progress.
During his tour, he also visited Bagori village, where he met with locals and acknowledged their efforts in keeping border villages lively and resilient. His itinerary included a stop at Mukhwa village, where he offered special prayers at a local temple, underscoring the cultural and spiritual significance of the area.

In a show of support for the armed forces, General Chauhan met with troops deployed in the challenging terrain of Uttarakhand. He commended their dedication, valour, and operational readiness, noting the difficulties posed by the harsh geographical conditions and adverse weather.
