BJP Leader Tarun Chugh Accuses AAP of Misrepresenting Kejriwal's Legal Relief in Liquor Scam Case
In a sharp rebuke to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Friday asserted that the party is making false claims regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's alleged acquittal in the liquor policy scam. Chugh emphasized that the recent relief granted to Kejriwal is purely procedural and does not absolve him of the core allegations in the investigation.
Chugh Clarifies the Nature of the Legal Relief
Tarun Chugh explained that the relief pertains solely to a technical complaint concerning the alleged non-compliance of Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons. He stated, "The relief granted has nothing to do with the core investigation into the liquor policy scam, corruption, or money laundering. It pertains only to a technical complaint related to alleged non-compliance of ED summons, which is now being falsely projected as vindication." This clarification aims to counter AAP's portrayal of the development as a significant legal victory.
Background on the Enforcement Directorate's Actions
Chugh further alleged that during the liquor policy investigation, Kejriwal deliberately avoided joining the probe when the ED issued summons. "The agency was compelled to file a complaint under Section 174 IPC before the Rouse Avenue Court. The case in which relief was granted is purely procedural in nature," he added. This highlights the BJP's stance that the procedural relief does not impact the substantive charges under investigation.
The BJP leader's comments come amid ongoing political tensions, with the AAP using the relief to bolster Kejriwal's image. Chugh's statement underscores the party's effort to maintain focus on the corruption allegations, urging the public not to be misled by what he terms as misinformation from the opposition.
