Varanasi: BJP president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday voiced confidence that his party will form the government in West Bengal with a “massive majority”. Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at the Vindhyachal temple in Mirzapur, Nabin said: “Wednesday was a special day for Bengal as people turned out in record numbers to ensure a BJP-led government with a massive majority.”
Visit to Mirzapur
Nabin, who was in Varanasi to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reached Mirzapur on Wednesday morning. BJP Mirzapur City MLA Ratnakar Mishra welcomed him and took him inside the temple to offer prayers after paying obeisance to Goddess Vindhyavasini. On his first visit to the district after assuming office, Nabin was welcomed by party workers at several places. At the temple, he was received by city MLA Ratnakar Mishra and District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Gangwar, who felicitated him with a traditional ‘angvastram’.
Organisational Meeting
After offering prayers for about 10 minutes amid Vedic chants, Nabin held a meeting at a hotel with local MLAs and emphasised strengthening the organisation. He asked public representatives to focus on serving people in their respective constituencies. The BJP president’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in West Bengal, where the party is aiming to unseat the ruling Trinamool Congress in the next assembly elections.
Background
Nabin’s visit to Mirzapur is part of a broader strategy to consolidate the party’s position in the region. The BJP has been making significant inroads in West Bengal, winning 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general elections. The party is now focusing on expanding its organisational base and reaching out to voters with a message of development and good governance.
The BJP president’s confidence reflects the party’s optimism about its prospects in West Bengal. With the state assembly elections due in 2026, the BJP is expected to intensify its campaign and highlight the achievements of the central government. Nabin’s statement is likely to energise party workers and set the tone for the upcoming electoral battles.
