The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, leveraging a disclosure made by Sam Pitroda, the head of the Indian Overseas Congress and a key figure in the Nehru-Gandhi family's inner circle. The BJP asserted that Pitroda's confirmation of the Congress party's membership in the George Soros-linked Global Progressive Alliance (GPA) fully explains why Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has become a permanent spokesperson for anti-India global forces within the country's political landscape.
BJP Press Conference: Connecting the Dots
Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi pointed to Pitroda's remarks in a recent media interview. Pitroda had confirmed the Congress's membership in this global conglomerate of left-leaning parties, which has links to the controversial billionaire hedge fund operator, George Soros. Trivedi stated that this admission validates what the BJP had long maintained about the real cause behind Rahul Gandhi's frequent foreign visits.
The context of Pitroda's statement was a question about Rahul Gandhi choosing to visit Germany while skipping the parliamentary debate on legislation meant to substitute the MNREGA scheme. Pitroda justified the absence by citing the Congress party's commitments due to its GPA membership. Trivedi highlighted this answer to question the Congress's priorities. "If Pitroda and Congress do not care about this, then they must answer whom do they care for?" he asked.
Questioning Foreign Engagements and Alliances
Trivedi, a Rajya Sabha MP, referenced George Soros's past statements against the Modi government and his alleged mission of regime change. He posed a series of pointed questions: "Rahul travels abroad, but why does he always meet anti-India organisations and anti-India individuals? Why does he never meet India-supporting institutions, India-friendly think tanks, industry leaders, parliamentarians, or thought leaders? Congress must answer this before the nation."
He further cited an example, noting that while Rahul Gandhi had once objected to not getting a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his Germany visit he shared a stage with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung—an organization declared illegal by Russia and one that has expressed anti-India statements. Trivedi also recalled that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was found to be the co-chair of the Forum for Democratic Liberties Asia Pacific, a post she reportedly still holds. "This organisation was also funded by George Soros," he added.
Scrutinizing the 'Alliance of Democracies'
Elaborating on Pitroda's revelations, Trivedi said, "When Pitroda was asked what connection the Global Progressive Alliance has with Congress, he reveals that Rahul Gandhi is a member of its presidium, and Sam Pitroda is also its member." He noted that Pitroda described the GPA as an alliance of democracies from 110 countries.
Trivedi then challenged this claim, directing a question to Pitroda and senior Congress leaders: which 110 countries in the world have stable democracies? He presented an analysis: "There are 190 countries, of which 57 are Muslim-majority where none have stable democracies. Apart from this, there are 30-40 countries that have monarchies, and if these are excluded, the number of democratic countries falls below 100. In such a situation, the question arises: under the cover of democracy, what is this group of countries that appears to attack India's foundation?"
The BJP's aggressive stance, based on an insider's admission, has intensified the political discourse, framing the Congress's international affiliations as a matter of national concern and questionable loyalty.
