BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Saturday slammed the Punjab Police for conducting a raid at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, accusing the state government of engaging in political vendetta. Speaking to the media, Trivedi questioned the timing and motive behind the action, pointing out the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
Punjab Police Raid Sparks Political Row
Trivedi said, "Today, the Punjab Police attempted to conduct a raid at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak. We wish to pose this question to Punjab: a state where the law and order situation is so abysmal... yet, instead of bringing criminals to book, they are targeting opposition leaders." He alleged that the raid was a clear act of vendetta by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Two FIRs Filed Against Pathak Post BJP Entry
The development comes after Sandeep Pathak, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP, recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following his defection, Punjab Police registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) against him. Critics have accused the AAP government of using state machinery to harass political opponents.
Social media users also weighed in, with many calling it a "pure vendetta" by Kejriwal. One user asked, "Did AAP Punjab realise only in the last week about this? Or this corruption happened in the last 6-7 days?" Another accused the government of trying to divert attention from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's alleged failures.
The BJP has vowed to raise the matter in Parliament and demand an impartial investigation into the police action. Meanwhile, Punjab Police officials remained tight-lipped, stating that the raids were conducted as part of a routine investigation into corruption allegations.
