BJP MLA and Actor Hiraan Chatterjee Faces Legal Action as Wife Files FIR Over Second Marriage

In a significant development from Kolkata, Anindita Chatterjee, the wife of BJP MLA and Bengali film actor Hiraan Chatterjee, has officially filed a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband. The complaint alleges serious charges of mental and physical cruelty, along with accusations that Chatterjee entered into a second marriage without obtaining a legal divorce from his first wife.

Police Investigation Initiated Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The Anandapur Police Station registered the case on Thursday under specific sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR includes charges under section 82 (1), which pertains to marrying again during the lifetime of a spouse, section 85 addressing cruelty, and section 54 concerning abetment. Alongside Hiraan Chatterjee, whose official name is Hiraanmoy Chattopadhyay, the FIR also names Rittika Giri, a model alleged to be the woman he married in a second ceremony.

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that a formal probe has been initiated. However, they have not yet questioned the actor-MLA directly. An officer involved stated that legal notices will be issued to all concerned parties to join the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.

Social Media Revelations Spark Controversy

The controversy surrounding Hiraan Chatterjee intensified after photographs of what appeared to be his second marriage surfaced online on January 20. The images, which depicted Chatterjee and Rittika Giri performing traditional Hindu wedding rituals in Varanasi, were initially shared on the MLA's social media account before being deleted. In the photographs, Giri was seen wearing a red Banarasi saree while Chatterjee donned a yellow kurta, fueling widespread speculation and public scrutiny.

Wife's Heartbreaking Account of Years of Suffering

Anindita Chatterjee revealed in her complaint that she and Hiraan were legally married on December 11, 2000, and emphasized that they are neither separated nor divorced. She described enduring years of mental and physical torture but chose to remain silent primarily for the sake of their daughter and to protect the family's reputation.

Speaking to media representatives after filing the complaint, Anindita expressed being "humiliated and heartbroken" upon discovering her husband's wedding through social media posts. She stated, "Hiraan cheated on me repeatedly, but I kept forgiving him since I did not wish to end the marriage. I came to know through social media he was vacationing in Vietnam with Rittika Giri, whom he claims to have married."

She further added that Hiraan had been inaccessible for an extended period and shared, "I really don't know what he wants, for he told me often that Rittika was blackmailing him and that they had no relationship."

Address Details and Counter Claims

Police records indicate that both Anindita and Hiraan Chatterjee are listed as residents of a complex in Anandapur, while Hiraan is also shown as residing in Kharagpur. Rittika Giri's address is recorded at Gokulpur Station Road in Kharagpur.

In response to the allegations, Rittika Giri addressed the situation through a social media post, rejecting claims of illegality and misinformation regarding her age. She asserted that Anindita was sent a legal divorce notice and claimed she has been in a relationship with Hiraan for five years, with Anindita's knowledge. The post has since been removed from online platforms. Anindita Chatterjee has dismissed these claims as entirely false.

Despite repeated attempts by media outlets to reach Hiraan Chatterjee for comment, calls and messages have remained unanswered, leaving his side of the story currently unrepresented in the public domain.
