BJP Leader Accuses Congress of Colonial Mindset Over Delimitation Opposition

In a sharp political attack, BJP floor leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy on Wednesday alleged that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is opposing the delimitation exercise solely to curry favor with the Gandhi family and secure the position of national Congress president. The BJP leader asserted that this stance undermines the interests of southern states, as delimitation would significantly increase their parliamentary representation.

Allegations of Colonial Tactics and Division

Reddy launched a scathing critique, accusing the Congress party of operating with what he termed a "colonial mindset" aimed at sparking conflict between northern and southern regions of India. "The Congress is acting with a colonial mindset, trying to spark North vs South conflict. They talk about the Union of states only to promote separatism," he stated emphatically.

Drawing a historical parallel, the BJP leader compared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to Lord Curzon, the former British Viceroy of India known for his divisive policies. "Rahul Gandhi is acting like a modern-day Lord Curzon, trying to divide and rule," Reddy added, suggesting that the opposition to delimitation is part of a broader strategy to fragment national unity.

Criticism of Proposed Hybrid Model

The BJP leader also dismissed the proposal for a 'hybrid model' of representation based on Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), labeling it as constitutionally unsound. "Linking democratic representation to economic output is illogical, unscientific and ultra vires," Reddy declared.

He elaborated on the dangers of such an approach, warning that it could fundamentally distort democratic principles. "Any attempt to link representation to economic performance risks transforming democracy into a plutocracy, where wealth determines political influence," he cautioned, emphasizing the need for equal representation regardless of economic disparities.

Advocating for Equal Representation

Reddy presented a compelling argument for delimitation by highlighting existing inequalities in political representation. "Three Goas are equal to one Malkajgiri. Delimitation is exactly what addresses this inequality, ensuring that a citizen in Adilabad and a citizen in Hyderabad have equal representation," he explained, using specific examples to illustrate the current imbalance.

He argued that the delimitation process is essential for correcting these disparities and ensuring that every citizen's vote carries equal weight, regardless of their geographical location within the country.

Political Acronym and State Focus

In a pointed remark, Reddy redefined the Congress party's acronym to reflect his criticism. He stated that Congress stands for "Creating Obstacles for Nation's Growth, Representation and Empowerment of South States," accusing the party of hindering progress and fair representation for southern regions.

The BJP leader also directed criticism specifically at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, suggesting he should prioritize his own state's issues. "Revanth should look at his own state before writing letters to other CMs," Reddy asserted, implying that the Telangana chief minister should address local concerns rather than engaging in national political maneuvers.

The allegations come amid ongoing debates about political representation and the delimitation process, which has significant implications for the distribution of parliamentary seats across India's states.
