The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of being two sides of the same coin. The party alleged that both outfits resort to arm-twisting tactics to intimidate their political opponents.
Congress Reacts to ED Arrest
The remarks came after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested Punjab industries minister Sanjeev Arora. The Congress used this development to highlight what it perceives as a pattern of misuse of central agencies against opposition leaders.
Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel stated, 'The BJP and AAP are two sides of the same coin. Both use arm-twisting tactics to intimidate opponents. The arrest of Sanjeev Arora is yet another example of how the ruling parties at the centre and in Punjab are colluding to target political rivals.'
Allegations of Misuse of Agencies
The Congress has long maintained that the BJP-led central government has been using investigative agencies like the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to harass and weaken opposition parties. The arrest of Arora, a senior AAP leader and Punjab cabinet minister, has added fuel to these allegations.
Party spokespersons argued that the timing of the arrest, just ahead of key elections, is suspicious. They claimed that the AAP, which is in power in Punjab, has been cooperating with the BJP to suppress opposition voices.
The Congress also pointed to past instances where AAP leaders had accused the BJP of similar tactics, only to now find themselves on the receiving end of such actions. 'The hypocrisy of the AAP is exposed. They once cried foul when their leaders were targeted, but now they are silent,' said a Congress spokesperson.
Political Implications
The arrest of Sanjeev Arora is expected to have significant political repercussions in Punjab, where the Congress is the main opposition party. The Congress hopes to capitalize on the situation to regain lost ground ahead of the next assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the AAP has defended its record and accused the Congress of making baseless allegations. However, the Congress remains adamant that both the BJP and AAP are cut from the same cloth and that the people of India will see through their games.
