The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a sharp attack on the Congress party on Saturday, accusing it of colluding with forces it described as "anti-India." The political offensive was centered around Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to Germany and his association with an international coalition.
Pitroda's Remarks Ignite Political Firestorm
The BJP's criticism was triggered by comments made by senior Congress leader and Rahul Gandhi's long-time advisor, Sam Pitroda. In an interview, Pitroda reportedly discussed the Congress party's involvement with a group called the 'Global Progressive Alliance,' which Rahul Gandhi attended during his Germany trip. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi seized upon these remarks, stating that Pitroda had "inadvertently exposed the real face of the Congress party."
Trivedi asserted that this alliance is connected to a network of organizations that propagate narratives against India. He highlighted that Pitroda confirmed Rahul Gandhi's position on the alliance's praesidium and his own membership. "After Sam Pitroda's statement, I want to ask the Congress party if they have become a member of the anti-India global conspiracy," Trivedi questioned.
BJP Resurrects George Soros Allegations
The saffron party amplified its allegations by posting a video of Pitroda and directly linking the Congress to foreign-funded networks. In a social media post, the BJP claimed, "Now Congress is not even pretending. Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda has openly acknowledged Rahul Gandhi’s engagements with Soros-linked global networks."
The party framed the issue as a foreign-funded ideological ecosystem, operating under 'progressivism,' openly influencing Indian politics. "The question is no longer whether these links exist, but why they are being accepted so casually," the BJP's post stated, demanding answers from Rahul Gandhi.
This fresh attack revives charges made earlier this year. In February, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia had accused the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of collaborating with foreign elements to undermine the nation. Bhatia had specifically pointed to organizations associated with billionaire philanthropist George Soros, alleging heightened funding to certain NGOs during the Congress-led UPA regime.
Context of Rahul Gandhi's Germany Visit
The controversy stems from Rahul Gandhi's visit to Germany, where he toured BMW's Munich headquarters. During the trip, the Congress leader criticized the Central government's manufacturing record. He argued that manufacturing is declining in India and emphasized the need to build robust ecosystems to create high-quality jobs.
"Manufacturing is the backbone of strong economies. Sadly, in India, manufacturing is declining. For us to accelerate growth, we need to produce more," Gandhi had stated. The BJP's latest offensive, however, has shifted the focus from his policy comments to his alleged international associations, setting the stage for a renewed political confrontation.
