The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) North Zone has resolved issues at 50 waterlogging locations identified by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, according to a statement released on June 22, 2026. The statement noted that 20 of the 81 flagged spots fall outside its jurisdiction, while work is underway at four locations and desilting is ongoing at two others.
Traffic Police Flag Waterlogging Hotspots
Bengaluru Traffic Police had identified 81 waterlogging-prone spots across the city to mitigate monsoon-related disruptions. The North Corporation responded by inspecting each site and taking corrective action. Officials confirmed that 50 spots have been fully resolved, addressing drainage blockages and improving water flow. The remaining sites are either under different authorities or undergoing repairs.
Jurisdictional Challenges
Of the 81 spots, 20 were found to be outside the North Corporation's purview, falling under other civic bodies or state agencies. The BBMP North Zone has coordinated with these entities to ensure timely action. The statement emphasized that all flagged locations are being monitored to prevent flooding during heavy rains.
Ongoing Work and Desilting Operations
At four locations, work is currently in progress to clear blockages and upgrade drainage infrastructure. Desilting is actively being carried out at two additional spots to remove accumulated silt and debris. The corporation aims to complete these tasks before the next heavy downpour to minimize traffic disruptions.
A BBMP North Zone official stated, "We have prioritized these 81 spots based on traffic police input. Resolving 50 so far is a significant step, and we are committed to clearing the rest promptly." The corporation has deployed additional teams to expedite the remaining work.
Impact on Bengaluru Commuters
Waterlogging during monsoons often leads to severe traffic jams in Bengaluru. The collaborative effort between the traffic police and BBMP North Zone is expected to ease congestion at key junctions. Commuters have reported improved conditions at several previously problematic locations, including Hebbal and Yeshwanthpur.
The corporation urged residents to report new waterlogging issues via its helpline. With the monsoon season underway, BBMP North Zone has also initiated preemptive desilting across major roads to prevent future flooding. The traffic police continue to monitor the situation and provide real-time updates to the civic body.
