His wife, Anindita Chatterjee, has filed a formal police complaint against him, accusing him of both psychological torture and entering into a second marriage without obtaining a legal divorce from their existing union.
Allegations of Torture and Secret Marriage Surface
Anindita Chatterjee revealed on Thursday that she has taken legal action against her husband following the circulation of photographs on social media platforms that purportedly show the Kharagpur Sadar MLA celebrating his marriage to model Ritika Giri in Varanasi. The complaint has been officially lodged at the Anandapur Police Station in Kolkata, naming both Hiran Chatterjee and Ritika Giri as respondents.
"We have been married since December 11, 2000, and we share a 19-year-old daughter," stated Anindita Chatterjee. "For a considerable period, I have endured various forms of torture, but I maintained silence primarily to protect my daughter and preserve our family's dignity."
According to her account, Hiran Chatterjee would periodically visit his family while taking breaks from his political responsibilities in the West Midnapore district, where his Assembly constituency is located. She emphasized that despite whispers and suspicions about her husband's alleged extramarital relationship, she had chosen to remain quiet until concrete evidence emerged publicly.
Conflicting Narratives and Social Media Revelations
The situation took a more complex turn when Ritika Giri, identified as the MLA's alleged second wife, responded through her social media channels. Giri claimed that "wrong information has been disseminated about my age" and asserted that a legal divorce notice had been sent to Anindita Chatterjee.
"We have been in a relationship for the past five years, and Anindita was fully aware of all developments," Giri stated. "My social media account has always been public, with nothing concealed. The question arises: where was she all these years, and why did she not raise any objections earlier?"
Anindita Chatterjee promptly refuted these claims, labeling them as entirely false. "The girl alleges she has been with my husband for five years, but I distinctly remember her presence as a party worker during the 2021 election campaign," she countered. "Friends would occasionally show me photographs from her social media profiles, but my husband's face was never clearly visible in those images."

The controversy has inflicted significant emotional distress on the Chatterjee family. Anindita revealed that her husband has made no attempt to contact her or their daughter since news of the alleged second marriage became public. This silence has compounded the family's anguish.
The couple's daughter, Niyasa, expressed profound shock and disappointment when speaking to media representatives. "Ideally, my father should have been the one to communicate such life-altering news to us," she lamented. "Instead, I discovered everything through social media while returning from college. My mother called and asked me to check my phone, where I found screenshots of wedding pictures sent by friends."
Niyasa added emotionally, "For me, my father can only be married to my mother. This situation is incredibly difficult to process, and I genuinely do not know how to handle these circumstances."
