Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh on Tuesday met former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa at his residence here, triggering speculation about political developments in the state.
Meeting Details
The meeting, which lasted for about an hour, took place at Yediyurappa's residence in the city. Sources said that the two leaders discussed various organisational matters and the current political scenario in Karnataka. However, no official statement was issued after the meeting.
Political Significance
The meeting assumes significance as it comes amid reports of dissidence within the state BJP unit and ahead of the upcoming elections to the Legislative Council from local authorities constituencies. Yediyurappa, who stepped down as chief minister in July 2021, continues to wield considerable influence in state politics.
B L Santhosh, a key organisational leader, is known for his role in strategising and strengthening the party's grassroots network. His meeting with Yediyurappa is seen as an effort to address any internal issues and ensure unity within the party ranks.
Background
Yediyurappa, a veteran BJP leader, has been a prominent figure in Karnataka politics for decades. He served as chief minister four times. After his resignation, Basavaraj Bommai took over as the chief minister. However, Yediyurappa remains active and is often consulted on important party matters.
The meeting also comes at a time when the BJP is focusing on consolidating its position in the state, with an eye on the 2023 assembly elections. The party currently leads the government in Karnataka.
