Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a bold statement on Tuesday, declaring that India will remain a Hindu nation as long as the sun and moon exist. Speaking at a press conference following the NDA's landslide victory in the Assam Assembly elections, Sarma said, 'Jab tak suraj-chand rahega, Bharat hindu rashtra rahega' (As long as the sun and moon exist, India will remain a Hindu nation).
Victory Attributed to Governance
Sarma attributed the electoral success to the NDA's focus on governance and development initiatives. He asserted that the electorate had endorsed the performance of the state government under his leadership. 'The people of Assam have voted for progress, stability, and the policies of the NDA,' he added.
Election Results
The NDA, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, secured a comfortable majority in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly. The opposition parties, including the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front, failed to make significant gains. Sarma's leadership and the party's grassroots campaigns were credited for the victory.
Political analysts noted that the statement on Hindu nationhood resonated with the party's core supporters, though it also drew criticism from secular and minority groups. Sarma, however, remained unapologetic, emphasizing that India's identity as a Hindu nation is rooted in its ancient culture and traditions.
The chief minister also outlined his vision for the next term, focusing on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and job creation. He assured that the government would work tirelessly to fulfill the promises made during the election campaign.
