The Indian Army swiftly activated counter-Unmanned Aircraft System measures on Tuesday after multiple drone sightings along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Army sources confirmed the development to ANI, revealing that drones were detected in forward areas and immediately engaged using established protocols to neutralize any potential threat.
Multiple Drone Incidents Across Border Districts
Security forces reported drone activities across several border districts throughout Monday evening. In the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, Army troops responded to drone movement over Gania-Kalsian village around 6:35 pm by opening fire with medium and light machine guns. Simultaneously, another drone was spotted hovering over Khabbar village in the Teryath area of Rajouri district.
Samba district witnessed similar incidents when a drone-like object with blinking lights appeared over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector around 7:15 pm. The object remained visible for several minutes before disappearing. In Poonch district, security personnel observed a similar object moving from the direction of Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector along the LoC.
Officials confirmed these sightings followed a pattern observed the previous day, when suspected Pakistan-origin drones were detected along both the International Border and Line of Control in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts. The flying objects typically entered from the Pakistan side, hovered briefly over Indian territory, then returned across the border.
Army Chief's Stern Warning to Pakistan
The heightened border alert coincides with a strong warning from Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to Pakistan regarding continued terrorist activities. Speaking at the annual Army Day press conference, General Dwivedi revealed that at least six terror camps remain active across the LoC and two across the International Border following Operation Sindoor.
"We will act if any nefarious attempts are carried out," the Army Chief declared emphatically. He emphasized that Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, continues to have strategic impact.
Operation Sindoor's Strategic Impact
General Dwivedi provided detailed insights into Operation Sindoor's execution and outcomes. "Operation Sindoor was conceptualized and executed with precision," he stated. "Through twenty-two minutes of initiation on May 7th and an orchestration that lasted eighty-eight hours up to May 10th, the operation reset strategic assumptions by striking deep, dismantling terror infrastructure, and puncturing the longstanding nuclear rhetoric."
The Army Chief confirmed Indian forces destroyed seven of nine identified targets during the precision strikes conducted on the intervening nights of May 6 and May 7. These strikes targeted terror hideouts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and mainland Pakistan, including facilities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke.
General Dwivedi revealed that approximately one hundred Pakistan Army personnel were killed in firing along the LoC and International Border during the period of heightened tensions following Operation Sindoor. He emphasized that Indian forces played a crucial role in ensuring calibrated responses to Pakistani actions during this period.
Comprehensive Security Response
Following the drone sightings, security forces launched extensive ground search operations across all affected areas. The Indian Army maintains that Operation Sindoor strikes specifically targeted terror infrastructure, with subsequent Pakistani missile and drone attempts being successfully intercepted by Indian air defense systems.
The Army Chief expressed confidence in India's unified response capability, stating, "The entire country stands with the Army." He assured that any future response to security threats would be resolute and coordinated across all military services.
Security officials continue to monitor the situation closely along the Jammu and Kashmir border, with further details about the recent drone incidents awaited. The Indian Army remains on high alert, prepared to respond decisively to any security challenges along the sensitive border regions.
