Chennai: In a dramatic turn of events in Tamil Nadu politics, hours after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay called on Governor R V Arlekar on Friday and staked claim to form the next government, AMMK founder T T V Dhinakaran met the governor and requested him to invite AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) to form the government.
Allegations of Horse-Trading
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dhinakaran alleged that AMMK’s lone MLA S Kamaraj had ‘disappeared’ and accused TVK of indulging in “horse-trading”. He claimed that media reports suggested his party had supported TVK, and he suspected a forged letter was being circulated purportedly showing support for TVK. “I was shocked. So I got an appointment with the governor and submitted a complaint requesting him to investigate,” Dhinakaran said. “This could be a mockery of democracy. This could be horse trading.”
AMMK's Electoral Performance
AMMK’s S Kamaraj, who contested on the party’s Cooker symbol, defeated both the DMK and TVK candidates in the Mannargudi constituency. Dhinakaran reiterated that his party is part of the NDA and supports AIADMK. “I have submitted a letter to the governor in support of Edappadi K Palaniswami to form the government,” he added.
Governor's Office Visit
About two hours later, Dhinakaran visited the governor’s office again, this time accompanied by Kamaraj. Dhinakaran told reporters that Kamaraj got scared after a forged letter was circulated claiming he had supported TVK. “Hence he did not pick our calls,” he said. Kamaraj submitted a letter to the governor stating that he did not support TVK.
The developments come amid intense political maneuvering after the recent assembly elections, with no party securing a clear majority. The governor is expected to take a decision on government formation based on the claims and counter-claims.
