Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday confidently declared that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure more than 90 of the 126 assembly seats in Assam, paving the way for a third consecutive term in government. The senior BJP leader made this assertion while kicking off the party's election campaign with an impressive 2-kilometer roadshow in Guwahati, despite challenging weather conditions that had left parts of the city waterlogged.

Shah stood atop an open-decked SUV during the roadshow, rallying support for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari constituency. He was accompanied by several key candidates including Vijay Kumar Gupta from Guwahati Central, Diplu Ranjan Sarmah from New Guwahati, Pradyut Bordoloi from Dispur, and AGP's Dimoria nominee Tapan Das. Notably, Chief Minister Sarma himself did not participate in the roadshow due to schedule adjustments forced by the heavy rainfall.
At the conclusion of the campaign event, Shah told gathered media representatives, "The people of Assam are eager to form an NDA government. We will form government again with more than 90 seats." His statement was met with enthusiastic cheers from supporters who had braved the difficult weather conditions to participate in the political rally.

He further elaborated on developmental progress, stating, "Health infrastructure is being developed here systematically. The state has transformed into the central hub of health and education services for the entire northeastern region." Shah also emphasized the expansion of employment opportunities and the establishment of modern industries, including semiconductor manufacturing units, positioning Assam as a significant driver of India's overall growth narrative.
Weather Disruptions and Political Implications
Heavy showers early Saturday morning created significant waterlogging across large areas of Guwahati, disrupting normal traffic flow and affecting election campaigning schedules. The adverse weather conditions forced Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to alter his planned itinerary, redirecting his campaign activities to Golakganj in Dhubri district instead.
In an innovative adaptation, the Chief Minister addressed waiting supporters remotely through a mobile phone connected to a public address system, ensuring his message reached constituents despite the logistical challenges posed by the weather.

The extensive waterlogging in the city provided the opposition Congress party with political ammunition to challenge the BJP's governance record over the past five years.
