Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday raised questions over the denial by the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust of reports alleging missing funds. Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Yadav said, 'The explanation itself is not clear. If the trust says there is no missing fund, then they should come out with a detailed clarification.'
Trust's Denial
The trust, which oversees the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, had earlier dismissed media reports claiming that funds allocated for the temple were unaccounted for. In a statement, the trust termed the reports as 'baseless and misleading.' However, Yadav insisted that the public deserves a transparent account of the temple's finances.
Political Reactions
The issue has sparked a political debate, with opposition parties demanding a thorough investigation. Congress spokesperson said, 'The trust must provide a complete audit of all funds received and spent.' Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party accused the opposition of spreading misinformation.
Akhilesh Yadav further added, 'We are not against the temple construction, but we want clarity on the funds. The trust should not avoid answering legitimate questions.' He also urged the state government to intervene and ensure transparency.
The Ram Temple construction, a flagship project of the BJP government, has received massive donations from devotees worldwide. Any discrepancy in fund management could become a political flashpoint ahead of upcoming elections.
