Samajwadi Party Chief Alleges BJP Manipulating Voter Lists in Uttar Pradesh
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav made serious allegations against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government on Tuesday. He accused the BJP of getting fake voters added to electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav claimed the saffron party wants to manipulate the Summary Revision of electoral rolls exercise to damage the country's democratic framework.
Direct Accusations at Party Headquarters
Akhilesh Yadav addressed party functionaries at the SP headquarters in Lucknow. "BJP is desperate to sully democratic machinery of the country. They want to manipulate the SIR," he stated clearly. The SP chief warned that his party would file police complaints against any officials found helping BJP functionaries add fake voters to the lists.
"We have already sent the proforma of the FIR complaints to our booth level agents," Yadav explained. "All they have to do is fill up the blanks and file the complaints with the police."
Legal Preparations and Backup Plans
The Samajwadi Party has made comprehensive legal preparations according to Yadav. As a backup arrangement, the party has activated its lawyers wing in every district of Uttar Pradesh. "If needed, we will move the court to seek directions for lodging of FIRs," he declared. Yadav emphasized that once FIRs are registered, the guilty parties would face consequences.
Yadav cautioned his party workers to remain vigilant about BJP's strategies before the elections. He stated the BJP was capable of going to any extent to capture the election process through manipulation.
Concerns About Public Sentiment and Governance
The SP chief expressed concern about public dissatisfaction with the current administration. "People are fed-up with the BJP's misrule in the state," he asserted. Yadav urged his party workers to stand with citizens suffering from what he described as prevailing lawlessness, rising unemployment, and other public interest issues.
Discrepancy in Voter Count Figures
Akhilesh Yadav highlighted what he called a glaring mismatch in voter counts between different election authorities. He pointed out that according to the Election Commission of India, Uttar Pradesh has 12.56 crore voters. Meanwhile, the State Election Commission list shows 12.69 crore rural voters alone.
"If urban voters are added to it, the total will exceed 17 crore," Yadav noted. "How can this mismatch be explained especially when the BLOs and other officials associated with preparing the list are the same?" he questioned, referring to Booth Level Officers who work on voter list preparation for both authorities.
The Samajwadi Party leader's statements come amid ongoing political preparations for upcoming elections in India's most populous state. His allegations reflect growing tensions between opposition parties and the ruling BJP government in Uttar Pradesh.
