An Air India flight from Mumbai to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing at Mumbai airport after a mid-air engine snag on Thursday. The aircraft, carrying 175 passengers and crew, landed safely without any injuries reported.
Incident Details
The flight, AI-101, took off from Mumbai at around 6:30 AM and was en route to Delhi when the pilot noticed a technical issue with one of the engines. The pilot immediately contacted air traffic control and declared an emergency. The plane circled for some time to burn fuel before landing safely back at Mumbai airport.
Passenger Safety
All passengers were deplaned safely and arrangements were made for their onward travel. An Air India spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft underwent a thorough inspection and that the safety of passengers was the top priority.
This incident comes amid increased scrutiny of airline safety protocols. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered an investigation into the matter.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first time a mid-air snag has occurred on an Indian carrier. In recent months, there have been several reports of technical glitches on flights operated by various airlines, raising concerns about maintenance standards.
Passengers on board the flight expressed relief that the situation was handled professionally. One passenger stated, "It was a scary experience, but the crew kept us calm and informed throughout."
