AIMIM Loses All 11 Seats in West Bengal Polls

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) suffered a complete defeat in the West Bengal assembly elections, losing all 11 seats it contested. The results were announced on Monday, marking a significant setback for the party in the state.

Party's Response

AIMIM national spokesperson Adil Hussain stated, 'We will analyse the performance of our candidates and the party.' The party had fielded candidates in constituencies with large Muslim populations, including Murshidabad, Malda, Birbhum, North 24 Parganas, Paschim Bardhaman, and Uttar Dinajpur.

Electoral Strategy

AIMIM contested the West Bengal elections independently after ending its pre-poll alliance with Humayun Kabir's Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP). The alliance was terminated following a sting operation that allegedly showed Kabir seeking money to split Muslim votes. In the previous elections, AIMIM had contested six seats and lost its deposits in all of them.

The party's poor performance in West Bengal contrasts with its stronghold in Hyderabad, where it has a significant presence. The results highlight the challenges faced by regional parties in expanding beyond their traditional bases.
