In a fiery address at the "Save Constitutional Rights, Build Brotherhood" rally held at the GIC ground in Agra on Sunday, Lok Sabha MP and Azad Samaj Party chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad launched a scathing critique of the Uttar Pradesh government. The event, which drew significant attention, saw Aazad highlighting pressing issues concerning governance and social harmony in the state.
Criticism of Law and Order and Women's Safety
Aazad pointedly accused the UP administration of failing to maintain adequate law and order, emphasizing the lack of safety for women as a major concern. He argued that these shortcomings have created an environment of fear and insecurity among residents, undermining public trust in the government's ability to protect its citizens.
Support for Shankaracharya and Condemnation of Religious Division
During his speech, Aazad also targeted the BJP-led state government over the recent incident involving the Shankaracharya in Prayagraj. He strongly condemned the episode, expressing his unwavering support for the seer and criticizing what he described as attempts to divide society along religious lines. Aazad alleged that the government is exploiting religious sentiments to create rifts, rather than fostering unity and brotherhood as promised in the rally's theme.
Controversy Over Rally Venue and UGC Regulations
Aazad further criticized the administration for denying permission to hold the rally at Ram Leela Maidan, suggesting it was an attempt to stifle opposition voices. Additionally, he voiced opposition to the University Grants Commission's newly notified Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions Regulations, 2026. Aazad claimed that resistance to these regulations comes only from those who "exploit children based on caste," and he issued a stern warning that his party would launch protests if the decision is rolled back under pressure.
Promises and Appeal for Support
In a bid to garner public backing, Aazad appealed to the people to support the Azad Samaj Party, outlining a vision for governance that includes affordable healthcare, employment opportunities, free education, and the withdrawal of false cases against party workers if his party comes to power. He emphasized these promises as key pillars for building a more equitable and just society in Uttar Pradesh.
Following the rally, Aazad took to social media platform X to thank the people of Agra for their participation and for making the event a success, underscoring the community's role in amplifying his message. The rally has sparked discussions on political accountability and social issues in the region, positioning Aazad as a vocal critic of the current state leadership.
